There's this notion that people without domain expertise produce a lot of crap but the occasional brilliant finding. But on coronavirus it seems the opposite. As far as I can tell, there's lot of fairly solid B+ stuff. But the occasional disastrously wrong F- study.

No Nate, only epidemiologists should be able to have an opinion. Like the Stanford profs who concluded this week that our entire galaxy has already caught and recovered from the Rona.https://twitter.com/StatModeling/status/1251861833813839872 …

Will Fithian @wfithianI have been corresponding with the authors of the well-known Santa Clara County COVID-19 preprint, and I am alarmed at their sloppy behavior. The confidence interval calculation in their preprint made demonstrable math errors - *not* just questionable methodological choices.Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 11 likes -

The worst thing about this dude is he’s actively rooting against people already having the antibodies. Disgusting.

Wanting the study to be accurate and comprehensive =/= wanting a specific study outcome.

Exactly. The virus doesn’t care what we’re ‘rooting for’. It can only be beaten by science. So accuracy is very important.

Disagree - We should all be rooting for the same outcome: that this has infected as many people as possible already. Anything else is disgusting and shows peoples true colors.

Sure. But if we convince ourselves that it has, and act like it, if it really hasn’t, then we’ll make things worse.
