Resilience.
We're all going to need it in the next few weeks. Something that been on my mind the last few days though:
What's the difference between supressing your feelings and sitting with and accepting them?

Great question, there's a lot to unpack here. I'm going to be teaching a 3 hr workshop in April on precisely this question. I like to draw a parallel between the hero's journey—most of us numb, distract or suppress at stage 2, but resilience requires the full cycle.pic.twitter.com/RydCD0a9GY

I like the diagram! But I'm also struggling with it, because my first reaction is to think about calls we were on where we couldn't save the person or people through no fault of our own. So Deep Insight / New Wisdom feel wrong. But also, I guess getting to the root of that is key

So for example, is it guilt? Anger? Despondence? I'd imagine identifying those feelings is the first step, and then entering that cycle (there really *wasn't* anything we could do, or there was and mistakes will happen, etc).

In my experience sensations of guilt and anger are masking a deeper hurt or sadness that just needed to be fully felt. This was definitely the case for me experiencing grief and I imagine could also be true in this scenario.

The toughest challenge is getting out of the stories in our head and into the somatic felt experiences of the emotion. From there our bodies are inherently resilient and know how to move through and integrate the experiences.

True, but some experiences are horrifying, and the underlying trauma so great that it may not be possible to easily do that. I obviously don't want to share stories here, but that's the kind of stuff I'm thinking about.

This stuff isn’t easy. At all. It’s still possible to work through it, over time, with the support of skilled people who care.
