China is not best understood as a communist country, or as fascist. China is modernist. Many western countries were modernist between 1920 and 1960. Now they are postmodernist. Modernists believe that sociology is a field of engineering, postmodernists think it's a moral opinion.
Because postmodernism has become associated with the “unintentional retreat from modernism” mentioned in other comments here, we need a new brand to represent a view that can handle pomo complexity and still be constructive

I think that postmodernism may happen when society develops to a point where you are insulated from the factual consequences of your beliefs an mostly have to deal with the social ones.
