The older I get the more I’m convinced that ‘capitalism’ is simply incompatible with life on earth. At some point we need to make a decision: exponential growth, record profits and increasing valuations… or life.

Pretty much the same side as farming, transportation and everything else touched by technology. It’s neither good or bad, but how it’s used. Insanely wasteful tech such as Bitcoin/blockchain however really need to be rethought IMHO.

But the only means we have to collectively rethink it, to judge its wastefulness, globally (i.e. across differing cultures and gov’ts) and at a granular level is to frame it in terms of price.

To unpack that a little: maybe the reason our species is stressing out the planet is more fundamental than what economic system we have, and grows out of human desire for social status, novelty, improvements to quality of life, etc.

I used ‘capitalism’ to refer to a set of ideals and principles we as a society believe. We totally need the rethink these ideas and principles in light of the situation before us.
