I’m guessing “it would be easier if I start a cult” comes from the realization of the level of commitment and trust from participants necessary to make it work? That willingness to commit & bond can be part of your search criteria

Yeah, but it isn’t just a general willingness to commit, but a willingness to commit to me and my group. It’s like getting married to a bunch of people.

Indeed—so the more clarity we have on what we’re going to be doing together, what this union is for, and the preferences, habits, limitations, etc. of each of us, the better a shot we have at making it work.

Ultimately there’s no way to guarantee success; we’re just signing up for a series of learning experiences, and betting that even with the unknown, it’ll still be a better environment for e.g. raising children.

So: what *are* your (tweet-length) long-term goals for an intentional co-living community?

1. Shared child rearing, ideally with enough children around that they can form their own pack. Children are pack animals and we seem to have forgotten that. (Potentially tied in with unschooling)

1 very relevant to me this week, 2 cool, wish I had more exposure pre-travel sooner, 3 may be tough to sell the wife, 4 and 5 love them

Why would 3 be hard to sell to your wife? Is she more introverted, or would she’s feel uncomfortable with you living with others you were very close to?

Not introverted but likes personal space. Bad past experiences with roommates

Yeah that is definitely the hard part. You're the second person I've met who would be interested in community living but for whom the dealbreaker is that their wife feels uncomfortable living with others.

I like my personal space too, which is why I imagine the sweet spot is having a shared space and commitments to spend time together, but also private spaces. A few acres of land with some common buildings but private houses too. Or suburban houses that share a backyard.
