      Wow, realizing I have been promoted exactly once, in the very distant past and it was basically scheduled. 20+ years have passed and I blown away by how normal and unrecognized this fact became.

      I also think many of us (people with this experience) were never taught to advocate for ourselves. I’m powerfully uncomfortable with “self promotion”.
