I see a lot of ppl quit their job and just go full time on a side project which I wouldn’t recommend, instead:
build your side project while you have stable income from a job
when the revenue from the side project surpasses your job for 6 months consider quitting

I’ve ALWAYS bankrolled my new projects with my previous:
free money from NL gov to study
DJ’d to get $ to produce music
uploaded that music to YouTube made $
used that to travel and build lots of side projectsShow this thread -
Andrey has 1-3 years of savings, lives in a cheap place and has a very dedicated mindset, most people don’thttps://medium.com/@AndreyAzimov/i-quit-my-job-and-i-have-one-year-to-get-to-profitability-6159db01d9c2?source=user_profile---------1---------------- …

Most importantly: it’s incredibly hard psychologically. The biggest red flag I see is people being excited to go work on side projects full time. There’s nothing exciting about it. You’re entering a world of pain

Until you have any traction (which can take months to years), it’ll just suck and you will have no idea why you aren’t getting any users

Many people start out shipping a lot, then usually there’s the 3-months crash. They get depressed, can’t take the load. Fizzle out.

TL;DR if you see people wanting to quit their job and go build a side project or startup without savings or cashflow: tell them to re-evaluate their choices

Also even harder if you have a family depending on you! Many of these solo makers on Twitter don’t have that.

Right now I go an alternative route: -Build skill on the side for 2 years & start side projects -Getting a Nanodegree on additional skill -Save for 2 years to go 1 full year nomad + buffer money for return -Try to get a job via

Yes, this! Some jobs are exhausting or demanding, and it's tough to find motivation and time to keep working on your side project while you're in those jobs.

Exactly what I did, although I saved much more than 3 years of savings. Best decision I ever made.
-
That's incredible! How in the work did you do that? And how long did it take?

It took about 3 years,l. I invested very wisely and did extremely well in the markets, in addition to saving about 70% of my income.
