    Vacancy rates in most expensive places way up. There was some discussion here recently about whether rents, having fallen by double-digits, are nominally flexible enough to quickly clear markets in these places. They aren't.

    Most writing on urban issues and urban policy focuses on out-of-control real estate prices. That's a real problem in the places of political and cultural power. But many other places have the exact opposite problem, and it harms a lot of people that we don't hear a lot about.

    Great thread explaining what CEA is and how it works. It is a great place to work for economists at a variety of stages of their careers, from people straight out of college to major policy school Deans.

    Not sure what you picture when you hear about the CEA. Here's a quick primer (based on 2010-11): Total of maybe 30 people working there -Council of 3 presidential appointees ("chair" & "members") -Admin office that runs operations, w/chief of staff & a couple of staffers

    Great, comprehensive look from & at the widening red/blue trench as diverse, info age metro America repudiated Trump much more even than in 2016 & the smaller places beyond remained unshakably behind him. Demography culture & economy all deepen the divide.

    President Trump won only 9 of the 100 largest US counties, down from 13 in 2016. That’s the latest sign of how white-collar, metropolitan America is separating from the less-thriving places beyond the big metros. With ⁦⁩ graphics!
