This hostile UK compaign takes place amid already distressing global rollbacks in sexual and reproductive health rights, as well as UK cuts in foreign aid that had helped fund family planning services, as a result of responses to Covid-19.

📢To say that this is an outrage 😤 is an understatement. The UK Govt @trussliz @tariqahmadbt @UK_FoRBEnvoy have taken out commitments to abortion & sexual health rights from an int'l statement on gender equality after more than 20 countries had signed on, giving no explanation🧵

Six groups finally accredited by but 100s more to go. Shame not only on #Russia and #China but all countries that vote No to letting more civil society members engage on UN ecnoomic and social issues.

🚨 UN member states in @UNECOSOC voted to accredit 6 human rights groups that have been unfairly blocked by #Russia #China & other abusive govts. BUT - some states should be ashamed of their votes: Israel, Chile, Argentina, Greece, Colombia, etc. hrw.org/news/2022/07/1

1/ By now everyone knows that bombing and shelling is killing civilians in #Ukraine. But when military forces set up bases in populated areas, this also puts civilians at risk. New @hrw research shows how hrw.org/news/2022/07/2

3/ Brennan, anti-ISIS forces commander in NE Syria, said nations that won't repatriate their nationals "should at least pay the #SDF for housing them." They should also provide due process. Locked housing=detention. Detention without due process=unlawful.

2/ "Most people think the war with #ISIS is over. They don’t think about how you repair the damage. What do you do with the prisoners? How do you give young people better options?" This is one time that I agree with .

1/ A vivid look at the fate of children of ISIS suspects trapped in NE Syria. Timely in light of news that Australian teen Yusuf Sahab survived being forced to live under ISIS, only to die in the custody of US-backed, anti-ISIS forces.

"J'ai été blessé à la tête et à la main", avait dit Yusuf à ma collègue pendant la bataille pour reprendre la prison en janvier. "J'ai perdu beaucoup de sang (…) Il n'y a pas de médecins ici, personne ne peut m'aider. J'ai très peur, j’ai besoin d'aide".

1/ UPDATES on Ghweran prison crisis in NE Syria: I have made contact with a Canadian man, an American man and an Australian boy inside the prison. They sound desperate. They say they've had no food or water for days; describe dead and wounded everywhere. They say they fear...

8/<80 other Australians including Yusuf's mother are indefinitely, unlawfully held in horrific conditions, with no due process, in NE Syria. So are +40,000 other foreigners. More than half are children who are suffering, even dying for alleged crimes of their parents. Basta.

3/ Even before being injured in that battle, Yusuf had caught tuberculosis while being held in a severely overcrowded prison, with men, without any charge, and his treatment had been interrupted, the family told . How could Australia have turned a blind eye to his plight?

France’s repatriation of 35 children + 16 women from NE Syria is welcome news. Gov should show that it has truly moved away from its approach of abandoning nationals in the region, by repatriating all children & their mothers, and men unlawfully detained hrw.org/news/2022/07/1
