Now that the is over, here is that article that Karen Schucan Bird of and I wrote about representation in reading lists. Many thanks to the Liberating the Curriculum working group at UCL who funded the original projects.

same in our metadata? I was pleased that the panel discussion briefly touched on the implications of UK libraries using LCSH. As libraries work through questions of decolonisation, don’t we sometimes need to come up with solutions that reflect our local / national 3/4

thought provoking about the differences as well as the similarities between the US and the UK, especially when our work touches on contemporary politics. Questions of citizenship and status are not the same in our two countries, so should we treat them the 2/4

Many thanks to for arranging the first UK screening of tonight. Fascinating to see the impact of library cataloguing decisions on real people, and to see how far the debate went in the US. It was also very 1/4

The cordens are in place between Oxford St, Charing Cross Rd, Shaftesbury Avenue, Lexington St & Poland St. All roads in between those mentioned are closing & evacuations will be taking place shortly. 2/2

Many versions of the Ode to Joy will be played tonight. Here’s one from a country bordering both Russia and the EU, filmed just as Russia annexed Crimea. Our concerns fade by comparison.

For friends struggling this evening, I found this twitter thread comforting. By 11:01 tonight, Boris Johnson will have achieved his goal, but what happens next is almost entirely open. The Brexiteers will have lost their advantage. Everything is once again up for grabs. Ready?

Walked down Whitehall to Parliament Square, where there was a small but noisy demonstration. Not sure that it quite conveyed a spirit of national reconciliation.

Please don't commemorate this sad day with division or hate. Our most absolute defeat will be to become what we despise.

Tomorrow, we begin a new path, there are two roads: ⚪️ Johnson’s “Global Britain” that turns its back on child refugees. 🔘 A progressive Britain which values human life equally across the globe. I know what I’ll be fighting for. Me for :

Brilliant news and my respect goes to all Bromley Library workers who dug in their heels and won this thing. You are all amazing. An example to us all on how to stand up for your rights and for the rights of your communities.

As I sit in breakfast in this morning listening to 3 assholes joking about the staff being sent home soon - a reminder to stand with our European friends and family to push back against these Brexit, racist cockwombles. It’s not over yet, stand as allies.

Today's ebook nonsense. The print version is £28.99. Why the hell would I spend nearly £2000 for just one year's access to something?

Today my son was cornered at school by kids who wanted to “test” him for just because he is half-Chinese. They chased him. Scared him. And made him cry. I was the same age when I was bullied for being Pakistani. It’s 2020. I thought things had changed by now... 💔

Remarkable lunchtime lecture in partnership with Prize by Professor Mary Fulbrook. Among other crucial takeaway questions ... how do we achieve justice in cases of mass murder (and mass perpetration)? And why do people remain passive (even if not complicit)?
