That’s anti-Russian prejudice or a stereotype, Leonid, not Russophobia, which suggests widely dispersed, potentially violent prejudice, widely socially dispersed, and perhaps of long standing, with strong political backing.

But it is all these things together. Vodka jokes or deliberately substituting Soviet for Russian, racist crap - “they are not Europeans”, “they will never be like us” - all of this shit dates back from the times immemorial and encompasses entire society in Anglophone world.

So Kremlin propaganda demonising Ukrainians, drawing on established Tsarist & Soviet stereotypes, & backed by deadly military force—that’s a phobia, or type of racism. In contrast, “Russophobia” is official Kremlin propaganda to distract from its own racism & militarism.

Russophobia is a daily reality I live in. Kremlin using it? But of course, Russophobes are Kremlin’s best frenemies, it’s a mutually fruitful symbiosis. Each side is existentially dependent on the other.
