Okay, these are some interesting points *against* open sourcing/dropping patents for COVID vaccines:

Signal tried to use Instagram ads to display the data Facebook collects about you and sells access to. Facebook wasn't into the idea, and shut down our account instead:

Millions of words have been written and spoken about Basecamp in the past few days. Mission accomplished, I guess.

How absurd is it that you’re way better off just googling “oscar winners” and seeing the full results right there, rather than heading to , where you’re inundated with “All the Best Photos from the Red Carpet” and “Watch the Highlights” video reels. 🙄

What’s more, I fear Apple’s actions (and awful bugs in the past few days) will only strengthen Spotify’s podcast subscription model, when it’s eventually revealed. A simple model with attractive prices might further boost its plans of becoming the YouTube of podcasts.

I suspect Apple’s podcast subscription program, as it stands, will likely fail – except maybe for a handful of big, American networks. The shortcomings of the App Store have only worsened, so introducing that model in another market seems naive and regressive in 2021.

Four months later, I crossed the 500 YouTube subscribers mark. 🤘🏻 I'm itching to cross borders and do more hikes abroad, but travel restrictions are still fierce. This was my latest hike, from a few weeks ago, if you haven't seen it yet:

This whole piece from Spotify’s podcasting head honcho about the “issues” with RSS for podcasting read more like a plea for more tracking and closed platforms, rather than a viable proposal to enhance and improve the standard. Meh. /via

I was never a fan of the Spotify (desktop) app to begin with, but this new version is a regression on several fronts, no? This modal is emblematic – you can’t even confirm it with the keyboard! The Apple Music app is hot garbage, but Spotify seems to go for even hotter garbage.

Archiving a (completed, but ongoing) project because the client passed away. That’s a first… 😔 (He wasn’t young, but 65 is not old either. And I barely knew him, but still.)

For months this guy has made it abundantly clear that Apple has zero interest of keeping the App Store clean of scammy apps. Apple simply makes too much money from them to be bothered. Appalling.

Finally upgraded to Big Sur over the weekend, and it’s mostly fine … except nobody prepared me for the loss of the calculator widget! 😱 (Really though, it was super useful in a lot of ways the standalone calculator app is not. So why kill it??)

Whatever happened to the art of the movie/tv trailer? These days it’s basically: LETS TEST YOUR SPEAKERS AND GIVE YOU A SEIZURE WHILE WE REVEAL 80% THE PLOT!!! ALSO HERES A TINY TRAILER RIGHT BEFORE THE ACTUAL TRAILER BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE A 5 SECOND ATTENTION SPAN!!

What I love about video meetings (it ain’t all bad) is that generally people don’t feel they need to fill the rest of the hour because you came all this way and we can’t kick you out after just thirteen minutes right, because you’ll feel like it was pointless so let’s keep talki

For a platform with so many musicians, isn’t it weird how Instagram can’t keep video and audio synced in a 20 second clip?

I keep seeing the line 'EU is having vaccine problems because it was too slow in negotiating contracts' repeated in 🇬🇧&🇺🇸 media. I want to push back on this narrative because I think it's missing where real EU-level mistakes lie. Let's review what happened in past year (🧵1/17)
