I'd like to put my bid in to replace Melinda Power. Seems she doesn't know how to do her job properly. I'd even move back to Fla for it.
-
Yeah the idea of her not losing her job and keeping her pension after this display is nauseating

Honorable mayor of Jacksonville. I am also a veteran from the US Navy who now resides in Toronto Canada and have seen this video. I would like to know what Melinda Power has done for our country? She should be removed from office.

Ill catch it for this, but the flags appear to me to be obvious advertising, which require permitting. Because they are military it is obvious the biz is trying to attract military based customers. They should pay permit fee.
-
Since when do you need permission to do something that is not otherwise illegal. Last I heard the First Amendment was the dictating authority on what you could or could not say or do. Not some communistic "permit" system.
-
It's actually against DoD Guidelines to fly those flags where it can be perceived as advertisement. FYI, I'm a Navy Veteran. https://www.defense.gov/Portals/1/Documents/Trademarks/DOD%20Guide%20about%20use%20of%20seals%20logos%20insignia%20medals-16%20Oct%2015F.PDF …
-
FYI, he is not flying them for advertisement. Were the owners not Veterans, that might be in question, but they are. They fought for us and they have every right to show their support for our military and our country.
-
Amen. Business owner or not. He has that right
-
No, he doesn't. Please read the DoD guidelines above. They are positioned in such a way that it can be considered using those trademarks to advertise his business. They have a right to show support for myself & my fellow Vets, but not when they disregard those explicit guidelines
-
LMAO. You Seriously don’t know how to read. This applies ONLY to the “Seals” and “Logos”. This is meant for letterhead and printed advertising to prevent businesses from misrepresentation of the military. This has NOTHING to do with flags!!

REALLY???! Then why did you ok the ticketing of a local business because they were flying American flags on top of their building!? What kind of unAmerican act is this? Then the lady presenting the tickets turned to a vet and said " YOU did nothing for us!" And you are Mayor?
-
Did you not read his tweets in order? Do you think he signs every ticket?
-
I'm a Navy Veteran and I'd just like to say that they weren't being cited for the American flags, but for the military flags because, as per DoD Guidelines, they cannot be used in a way that is perceived as advertisement. See guideline here --> https://www.defense.gov/Portals/1/Documents/Trademarks/DOD%20Guide%20about%20use%20of%20seals%20logos%20insignia%20medals-16%20Oct%2015F.PDF …
-
The Veteran who owns that business has every right to proudly fly those flags. Thank you for your service, also.
