It's increasingly clear that for today's American conservatives, Viktor Orban's frank and vocal illiberalism, bigotry, and demagoguery are not obstacles to their admiration for him. They're the reasons for the admiration.

1) Just dropping a reminder that private Christian schools in the south allowed school segregation to go on for 22 years after it was abolished in public schools. The big push for private schools led by today's republican officials is deeply rooted in racism & segregation. ⬇️

Manchin gets to call the shots right now because we didn’t solidify key Senate wins last time around. So fix it. If you want things to change, you have to give Dems the power to do the work.

Tired of hearing about Joe Manchin? Vote for John Fetterman. Vote for Val Demings. Vote for Tim Ryan. Vote for Cheri Beasley. Vote for Mandela Barnes.

Most GOP strategists — accurately, in my view — don’t think Trump actually wants to run, anyway. He just wants to fundraise and attempt to avoid prosecution by screaming “election interference!!” when he’s indicted. Besides, the GOP is moving away from him and toward DeSantis.

New column! First-generation academics were always rare. Now they’re vanishing. You’ve probably seen ’s brilliant work on econ’s lack of socioeconomic diversity, but what’s driving it, and what does it mean?

Seems obvious now, doesn't it? The reason Boris Johnson is fading away while Trump remains viable as an R candidate is that the Tories have more members with integrity than our Republicans, an entire "herd" compared to our handful. Sad commentary on the (once) party of Lincoln.

Forget the ketchup. Forget the choking. Forget grabbing the steering wheel. Trump knew the rioters were armed with guns and other weapons and he encouraged them to “fight” and march on the Capitol. Everything else is a distraction.

Given Justice Thomas' concurrence, "In future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, & Obergefell," why shouldn't Pelosi & Schumer bring legislation codifying Griswold, Lawrence, & Obergefell to the floor?

Now is not the time to throw up your hands in discouragement, to say your vote doesn't matter, or to exclaim that there's nothing more to be done. That's what the other side wants you to do. That's how they win. I know it's exhausting and hard. Please stay in the fight. 🖤💜💔

A majority of Americans voted for the Democrats in 2016 and 2020, yet somehow we have an ultra right wing Supreme Court completely out of step with today's America for at least the next 20 years. Something is wrong with that.

We were told the Jan. 6 Committee would make no difference. But they've already moved the narrative from Trump's deplorable recklessness, irresponsibility, dereliction of duty, etc., to an understanding he was at the heart of a true criminal conspiracy. Not bad for a week's work.

Straightforward from here: 1. Dems hold Senate & key govs in Nov. 2. Biden says focusing on governing, not running in 2024. 3. Bitter and crazy R pres race w/ Trump & challengers. 4. D contest features governors & next generation. Moderate D prevails. 5. Dem wins in 2024.

Why did the lessons of Watergate mostly hold for 40 years? It's not just that Nixon was forced to resign. It's that his agents were punished. Government officials saw they could go to jail. That's why the lack (so far) of accountability for the Trump attempted coup is dangerous.
