sorry, that’s probably clearer and better worded and offers freelance folks the option of seeing how salaried people spend paid hours doing necessary thinking, gearing up, cooling down, context flipping, etc. all paid! freelance is hard to quantify and that’s a real conversation
the point of this poll is to surface/normalize the very important time spent “not” doing a job; the abstract thought processing that enables us to do the concrete aspects of development - and to remind freelancers that a salary accounts for this time, and perhaps we should too
When I did freelance I kept to 9-5 schedules specifically so I could still treat the hours spent thinking/planning as work. They're just as much part of a work day as drawing or animating is for me

Honestly, never feel bad about logging those hours. When I did freelance I would include them in my estimates/rate. Expecting someone to be focused consistently for 8 hours a day is absurd.
i remember seeing statistics that the average 9-5 office worker does about 3 productive hours per work day which feels reasonable
Currently a student, but I spend a lot of time considering work problems when I'm not actively working, i.e. in the shower, cooking dinner, during the commute. I generally add 20% to any time estimates for just that reason.
Depends on the day, but my payroll wraps usually average an hour, and once or twice a week I block off the last thirty minutes of my day for calendar maintenance and stuff.
