Cognitive Dissonance is a heck of a thing. As that Marvel news shows, folks can twist any evidence around to support their biases.

So when sales fall, it *must* be because "diversity" and not because bad writing, bad movies, or brand damage from same.
-
When a movie flops, it *must* be because it stars a woman, and not because bad writing, bad marketing, or lack of support.
-
Or, in the case of GitS, because racism swept its legs out from under it before it ever had a chance. The core fan base said no.

Avatar: The Last Airbender flopped like a pancake and any fan of the show can tell you why. Can the execs though?
-
(Though: Kathleen Kennedy was a producer on A:TLA, and if the new Star Wars is any indication, she may well have learned from that failure).

The whitewashing isn't leading to poor ticket sales, it's being a crass imitation of what an 8 year old would think GITS is all about.
-
The over-explanation "this is a ghost", etc, was annoying. Plus there was no need to make it an origin story.
-
Won't watch, don't need to care about cack-handed live action remakes... GITS 1995 is pretty damn perfect and shall remain a classic.
-
As remakes go, this is a good one, although story altered. You're right about the anime being classic, though. Btw, u prefer vinyl or mp3?

Spotify. My ghost wispers my music to me.

Nice one. Alexa (whisper her name) delivers mine.

GITS is the closest thing I have to a religion and I won't touch this steaming turd of a film with a 20 foot pole held by a Tachikoma.

The problem is Hollywood not telling stories worth thinking about. Anime GITS is a very deep and emotional story, not an action film.

They can't after Hidden Figures, tho

(I mean they probably still will, but.... It's evidence to the contrary)

Did anyone complain Xavier should be played by a disabled actor?

You think the majority of American movie goers care that the star of this film is not Asian? You are wrong.

Whitewashing is also not the problem of GitS. Dumbing down the story and shifting from the original, fascinating, focus is.
