A friend updated an iPhone to iOS 6 and it wiped out the Contacts from both the Mac and the iPhone. Wasn’t using iCloud. No local backup.

@mjtsai Ouch! I had no such issues, but I dd have an encrypted backup before upgrading.

@leebennett At the very least, iTunes should have made an updated backup before it installed iOS 6! -
@mjtsai Don't the upgrade steps include advising you to perform a sync and backup? -
@leebennett iTunes is supposed to do that automatically before it updates the OS. -

@leebennett Perhaps you’re using Wi-Fi syncing? This iPhone was set to sync via USB whenever it was connected. -
@mjtsai Mine too. Although I get sporadic success with auto wifi sync.
