@RWPUSA & my prescient 2017 warning: "Though remote, we cannot rule out the possibility that a president in a downward mental health spiral could destroy important global partnerships, alter centuries-old alliances and leave the United States vulnerable to terror attacks or war."

I'm neither a lawyer nor a doctor, but the 25th amendment isn't about establishing a physical or mental health diagnosis. 1/
-
The criteria is that "that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office". 2/
-
E.g., being unable to staff his administration months after inauguration might be taken as evidence that he's unable to do his job. 3/
-
Likewise, playing golf instead of attending to disasters affecting millions of US citizens is evidence he's shirking his duties. 4/
-
Also note that there is provision for Congress to appoint a panel to evaluate the President's fitness, instead of the Cabinet. 5/
-
Perhaps Congress could appoint such a body to question the President about pressing foreign & domestic policy questions. 6/
-
There's little doubt that a POTUS who has no understanding of international diplomacy or the consequences of nuclear war would be unfit. 7/
-
FAOD I'm not thinking the Congress-appointed panel would have to approve of the POTUS's policies to determine his fitness. 8/

What if the President is not suffering from organic mental illness or dementia? What if the President is simply a sociopath?
-
Antisocial Personality Disorder most resembles the diagnosis of Psychopath. Don't think dementia is a primary issue.
-
My bets are on NPD with early stage dementia. Clearly has moments of confusion, working memory impairment.
-
People with NPD tend to decompensate as they deal with the insult of aging... end stage narcissism. Add sociopathy to the mix...
-
That's a whole lot of delusions having to be maintained by an old brain.
-
Yes, they literally can't process the disparity between the delusions of how they feel they deserve to be seen v. how they really are seen.

It would be a huge relief to be rid of
@realDonaldTrump, but the 25th Amendment won't work. The last hurdle of the back and forth of Section 4 is a 2/3 majority in both the Senate and the House. Never going to happen - unless he is in a coma or something. And even then ... -
The Cabinet is using Trump to accomplish their own authoritarian agenda, so it remains unlikely. We address this reality in this chapter:https://twitter.com/leannewattphd/status/1006044503436738561?s=21 …
-
That's the key point. Thank you!

My question is, exactly how are you or is anyone going to get the
@WhiteHouse cabinet or the@GOP congress to act? Look at how they coddle and back this insane lunatic now. -
What about the same way we stopped the ACA repeal. Call your Senators.
-
-
I agree. I don't see any significant, unified push back from Republicans in Congress or Cabinet. Too spineless and greedy.
-
But other problem is you will get Pence and he is also very problematic, has very dangerous views against minorities and others 2/2
