University presses are vital, but so are small presses. Small presses produce books larger houses won't touch b/c $$$...small presses publish work that demands to be read because it's art before product.
this book was published 6 months ago. twiggy hasn't read it, but she watched me write most of it, or, more accurately, slept while i wrote it.

When I joined Twitter in ’08, I had two novels, both commercial flops. I didn’t fit a prefab publishing model: I was/am a black-ish author who looked white and wrote weird, funny lit fiction. But Twitter was text-based, brief: a perfect fit for a satiric writer like me.
