We're building a scalable general-purpose data availability layer, for decentralized apps and trust-minimized sidechains (including optimistic rollups).

I feel the same way about “relay chains and multiple concurrent proposer sub chains” design in 2020 as I did about Plasma in 2018. It’s a misadventure that probably won’t lead anywhere. is the correct direction

While we and other rollups can scale eth1 to hundreds or thousands of tps, there is a finite limit of thoroughput eth1 can support for data availability. So an idea is to use rollups with a blockchain optimized for data availability, see

This is evidenced by the number of organizations building apps via Ethereum sidechains, Tendermint deployments and Hyperledger deployments rather than using a shared execution environment. We want to make such apps more interoperable + secure to deploy, via a uniform data layer.

Our hypothesis is that it's much easier and more flexible for developers to scale their apps by deploying their own sidechains with custom execution environments, rather than design apps with complex scaling logic that works around their base layer's scaling strategy.

We strongly believe that the future of decentralized app infrastructure is one where there's modular/interchangeable data availability and execution layers.

tl;dr: if a known valid fraud proof isn't included in the chain within a certain amount of time, then all nodes will automatically perform a user activated soft fork (UASF) to require inclusion of the fraud proof

Our co-founder proposed a way to prevent layer two fraud proofs being censored, in layer two protocols that require fraud proofs to be processed by an on-chain execution layer. On-chain censorship prevention is a new important area of research.

Alternative designs, that leverage fraud and data availability proofs, and separate execution from data ordering and availability in the consensus process, are the first (and imo only) valid paradigm for scaling blockchains. LazyLedger is the leader in this design space.

What's the data availability problem? 🤔 It's about how users can be sure that some data was publicly published, without downloading all the data itself. ✅ Solving this problem is vital for data-hungry decentralized apps and many layer 2 protocols! ⚠️

[3] The network divides the application layer from the base layer. The project has a similar approach to with its node structure and layered design. I could see other blockchains such as and integrating LazyLedger as a data availability layer

[2] The team is led by , co-founder of Chainspace (DLT acquired by Facebook). The protocol plans to solve existing scalability issues and provide a better alternative to sharding and off-chain state channels. LazyLedger removes onchain computation from the main chain.

Our name means that our chain does not encourage on-chain execution and is thus lazy. In computer systems laziness is often more efficient than hard work. 🚀 Our logo represents two "L"s arranged as a square, and a ledger with three pages to symbolize triple-entry accounting. 📒

LazyLedger by : . Guarantees tx ordering and availability, leaves execution to clients (they only execute transactions that concern them). - Lower consensus overhead - No execution bottleneck when syncing - Can have multiple state machines

The "Why"s of Optimistic Rollup You've heard what optimistic rollup does and how it works, now find out *why*. I explain the intuitions behind the design rationale of optimistic rollup, and why everything fits together.
