The Standard Library Preview Package is coming. Stdlib additions will be introduced as SwiftPM packages first (if technically feasible), to enable rapid adoption and get real-world feedback. SE proposal: Acceptance:

The worst part is when the selection changes. You go to click something and _just as you do_ a new item pops up causing you to select something else.

And other people’s devices show up here too if you’re in an apartment complex and people used default settings. My menu has like 8 items and two of them are mine. I renamed my Apple TV and set it up to not show unless on the same wifi network.

  5. This UI has been like this for years now. Does no one at Apple have more than 2 AirPlay devices in the same room? The answer of course, is that macOS development & improvement is minimal. Nobody’s at the wheel to ensure the core experience is still polished & delightful.

  6. They’re undistinguishable; Clicking one will result in the correct result (music coming out of the nice speaker), while clicking the other will wake up the Apple TV, wake up the TV attached to it, and require me turn it all down. A painful, blood-gushing UX paper cut.

  7. This menu perfectly illustrates the state of macOS in 2020: one “Living Room” device is an Apple TV, while the other one is a HomePod. These names are defaults assigned by HomeKit.

It had been a while, but today I had to write some Objective-C++ again. Once again, I’m amazed at the madman who once decided to compile these two languages together, and actually pulled it off 👏

Nice to see Swift continue its fast growth - interesting that Swift, C and C++ are the only traditionally statically compiled languages in the top 10.

Every “The iPad 10 years on” take from Apple old timers boils down to them still being salty about not getting OS X on a tablet 🙄

G'luck to Shopify retaining engineering talent. Easiest way to burn out a group of smart people is to make debugging impossible. Everything with RN was straightforward for me until there was a bug. Then that entire margin of time saved was lost 10x.
