The grisly details are that Bucklew has a health condition that he says would lead to him suffering intense pain if put to death by lethal injection. Missouri has death by lethal gas on the books so Bucklew is asking for that instead

Justice Alito said during arguments in that earlier case that it was part of a "guerrilla war" against the death penalty. He is likely to have a similar view of Bucklew's claims.
