I understand and appreciate that. I'd rather not have government service be considered a career pinnacle—and I don't think it is, except to those who disdain the private sector.

Well... the gist of your argument seems to be that seeking advancement in public sector suggests disdain for the private sector....our current president certainly doesn’t think that!

No. I think if someone concludes it's unthinkable to leave a high-profile public sector job for private sector, that person struggles imagining a world where a government job isn't a career pinnacle. And I suspect that view is rooted in disdain for the private sector.
