Is it just me or is the reaction to this judge disproportionate?

I also think there is a tinge of #lawtwitter protraying her as hysterical—a characterization usually reserved for women (despite the fact she just heard seven days of testimony from 150 abuse victims) - 1 more reply

The Judge for whom I clerked cited the OJ case. Do we need any additional evidence? The only thing TV can do to the administration of any one case is cause people to act differently than they would normally, something justice does not need or can't use.

Televising this court hearing will do more than you can possibly imagine to encourage sexual abuse victims to come forward and thus to stop the next predator before he does as much damage as Nasser did. I’m not particularly interested in whether his feelings were hurt.

Really?! Judge Aquilina’s Conduct At Nassar’s Sentencing Was Disgraceful by Kevin Daley https://tinyurl.com/y82xf49h Obviously you've never been anally and vaginally probed for a broken leg against your will as everyone tries to convince you it's just a medical treatment.

FFS. If you're going to make a bold, unprovable assertion like that, at least show your math. Her statement went to the heart of the fact that this is a legally and socially significant issue that SHOULD receive proper media coverage -for the sake of survivors and the uninformed.

Notwithstanding the conviction, this is unethical for a judge to personally comment and behave this way.

You’re right. She was so mean to a serial assaulter. He spent all that time writing that letter about how he didn’t realize what he was doing was wrong. She should have nicely folded that letter and placed in the national archives.

I already disagree with the justices on this issue and their reasoning has never persuaded me. If they choose to add this as an example then I will likely continue to disagree with them.

I’m not so sure you have a valid argument on this one. Yes tossing the letter aside has no place in the decorum of the courtroom but it sends an extremely loud message to the women facing the same circumstances. Abuse is abuse and a judge tossing a letter aside won’t change that
