I happen to think this is probably what Republicans most wanted to happen. AKA: We gave her a chance, we're not going to let her dictate when we hold a hearing, so let's just cancel and vote our guy through.
But they offered options of staff interview and private hearing, no?
As far as I know, the committee reached out to Ford's lawyers to first do a staff interview and get transcripts etc. and this letter is the first response they got.

I never said it was a GOP gambit, just what they most wanted to happen. Easiest path to get cover to move forward with vote.
