This is the price that principled Republicans are paying for judges.https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1040217897703026689 …

3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico. When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths. As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000...

As a conservative who never supported him, I prefer to think of judges as a slight consolation. The thin silver lining on a massive storm cloud.

I know there are plenty who ignore his transgressions, I was just suggesting that not all of us who like his judge picks are willing to ignore his profound unfitness for the office.

Interesting question though as to what would have happened if McCain, Sasse, Flake drew a line in the sand early on —ie Gorsuch.

Why would they have done that? Gorsuch is near perfect pick from their perspective. More serious question is why they didnt exert leverage elsewhere.

Given close margin, they could exert this leverage anywhere. Wouldn't need to threaten something they value.

Judicial nominations are his greatest achievement, so I think he values that, in part as it did keep GOP dissenters off his back in any meaningful way

If R Senators blocked SCOTUS nominees, I’d blame them, not Trump. I’d blame Trump for the million other things he’s responsible for.

They wouldn’t necessarily have needed to block, just get on their senate-issued high horses and make a noise that was tied to something tangible. Gorsuch was nominated, what, four days, after the first travel ban?
