Criminal justice reform was the first (only?) bipartisan SOTU applause line

  2. You can both be pleasantly surprised by a Trump campaign ad because of the issue it focuses on and NOT be a Trump supporter FYI

President Trump had 30 seconds to communicate his most effective message in a multi-million $ ad. And he chose to feature and . Now...any Republicans out there want to attack him for it???

  4. Have any Dem candidates for president run ads focusing on clemency or CJR this cycle? When’s the last time you saw a Republican candidate for president run an ad like this? Regardless of how you feel about Trump (I’m not including my opinion here...), this is pretty significant.

Can’t quite believe we’re at a point where Trump highlighted criminal justice reform and clemency in his ad in the Super Bowl. Not sure what to say other than this shows criminal justice reform can be a winning issue for anyone.

  6. Wowww...that ad. Trump knows running on criminal justice reform is popular with both Democrats and Republicans and is leaning into it. Did not expect to see that during the Super Bowl.

It's a sad day for in Florida. is shutting down, and that's a damn shame. PAJ has published fantastic work, including this indispensable guide for lawmakers who want to . Their contributions will be missed dearly. .

“The feds could take her as soon as her release from hospital & jail her. She will potentially be stable at that point. The worst thing you could do to somebody who's just been stabilized is to incarcerate them. Creates the exact problem these bail laws were designed to remedy.”

I'm sorry, but this headline is ridiculous. The Sheriffs report does not "refute" any research behind any sentencing reform bills. At best, it "rebuts" or "disputes" such research. Stop publishing press releases and calling it journalism.

  11. This is out of control. NYPD/the feds are using this poor woman as a scapegoat to fearmonger around bail reform. She’s currently receiving mental health treatment & her victim doesn’t want to see her jailed. How would fed charges & pretrial detention help?

  12. It’s obvious that law enforcement who used this defendant’s case to spread fear around NY’d bail reform law (which has been in effect for less than a month) never considered the concerns of the actual victim.

It was a historic year for CJR in Oklahoma. I signed 774 commutations, 290 pardons, & 101 paroles. Under new leadership in & PPB, favorable recommendations ⬆️ by 225%. Impactful changes come when the right state agency leaders are in place, operating w/ a shared vision.

  20. This just landed in my inbox. The very popular Republican Governor of Oklahoma is touting his very robust commutation record just one year into his term and promises "bold changes in criminal justice reform" over the next few years. Other governors: pay attention!
