* I've already discussed Fred's claims about the vote count. The vast majority of members haven't even been to a meeting in years. It's totally inappropriate for an executive director to try to undermine a duly called meeting of the members https://twitter.com/laurenceb/status/1218073468438073344?s=20 … 2/

* "our goal remains[…]to be inclusive and reflect the diversity of our communities.", says Fred. Many in the community, especially many of those most marginalized, find the presence of so many corporate contingents to be exclusionary... 3/
Prikaži ovu nit -
...but instead we're talking about inclusion for hundred-billion-dollar corporations? I think they have their own spaces, already. 4/

* Google says we banned "Google, YouTube, and [their] employees from supporting this important community organization". Absolutely false! Google and it's employees are free to donate money to SF Pride. Google employees may March in any contingent that welcomes them! 5/

Last year, employees were concerned they'd be excluded, because it was so last minute. Workers compromised by allowing protest in the contingent. Management responded by declaring Pride a "marketing event" and promising those who protest "consequences" 6/https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/24/18716204/google-employees-pride-protest-code-of-conduct-violation …

This year, they have plenty of time to find a community organization or social club to march with. There are many that would welcome them, especially those who want to volunteer their time for the organization, too. 7/

* Google NetPAC, as well as Google directly, financially supports a wide range of politicians and organizations that actively pursue oppression of LGBTQ+ persons, including removing rights we've already won, and criminalizing our lives. 8/

* let's not forget, Steven Crowder is still on YouTube. A wide range of transphobes, homophobes, and other bigots are very actively using YouTube to spread hate and radicalize youths. Ask the experts like

* So when Fred talks about Google and YouTube in the context of inclusion and diversity, who's next? Focus on the family? Westboro Baptist Church? 10/

I'm not sure why I'm even responding to stuff like this, because if you weren't convinced by now, is this thread really going to change your mind? My position is simple: don't let Google and YouTube get away with providing a platform to oppress people, LGBTQ+ or otherwise 11/

SF Pride clearly gets a lot of attention, and judging by their response, Google really cares about staying in the parade. If they can't buy or talk their way out of being banned, maybe they'll try getting back in by actually doing the right thing. 12/
Prikaži ovu nit -
If not? Then they really shouldn't be in the parade. How damaging to the community does a company that makes Pride's annual revenue every 10 minutes have to be before it's not worth taking something like $25k from them? 13/

(we don't know how much Google gives SF Pride for their sponsorship, because Pride can't tell us. We passed a motion to change that the same night we passed the bans on Google and the AC sheriff's office) 14/

SF Pride has an opportunity to be a force for substantial change in the world, but only if it is willing to exercise its power. I firmly believe, including Google in this, the celebration of the 50th anniversary, would be unconscionable abdication of that power 15/

I will continue to work with SF Pride's board on a long term plan for standards for corporate sponsors. I've been going to Pride board and member meetings, month after month, working hard to make this happen, and Pride board members have been, too. 16/

Heck, I went to a Pride board meeting the night Google locked me out and put me on admin leave. We're not outsiders coming in to force our agenda on Pride, and I'm not here to work against the board. I hope the board will continue to work with me and other members. 17/

But I won't apologize for doing everything I can to keep Google out this June, given the current state of affairs on YouTube. I have said it before: if Google wants to stay at Pride, they have to clean up their act. Period. Thanks for reading, friends.
