News: Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Rep. Anthony Brown (D-MD) have introduced new legislation that would impose $1,000 fines on any member of Congress refusing to wear a mask in the Capitol amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
"After Representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman, Pramila Jayapal, and Brad Schneider tested positive this week, the lawmakers’ proposal responds to the potential super-spreader event that occurred as the United States Capitol was attacked last week," the release states.
Dingell said, “We’re done playing games. Either have some common sense and wear a damn mask or pay a fine. It’s not that complicated."
$10,000. Screw that pennies for the wealthy bullshit.
Make 10 or 20 thou. and cut off their medical ins. That might do the trick.
Only if the $ goes directly to the community around them. Fines only work on the poor, the rich care very little about a fine. Ask someone with tinted windows.
These people are millionaires.
Geez, many are millionaires. Think they care about $1,000? Think again. Couple a fine with 90 days in the slammer and up that fine to $20,000 and that’ll put a stop to it.
$1,000? Make it $10,000 or $100,000. They can afford it, unlike the rest of us.
Excellent thinking! That happens to citizens and businesses who don’t follow the rules; they aren’t above the people! And I agree. Make it $10,000 or more. It has to at least hurt a little!
Considering how rich most of them are, $10k would be better. Make the Republicans, the ones who have been refusing to wear masks, pay off the debt they have created pilfering our tax money for the past few decades. They are so stubborn that we could get a surplus out of it.
