You mean you don't have some version of "a-HA but what does action even mean in soccer"?

To appreciate soccer, you have to be able to understand 'the space between' the goals. If you can't pick up off ball movement, over lapping runs, breaking down defenders, a defense holding their shape, etc, you'll always claim soccer is boring.

And it's ok. We're allowed to like different things. I prefer my 60 minutes sports to be without 45 minutes of Viagra, pick up truck, and dog food advertisements.

While I think there is some general truth to these analyses, the action v. "non-action" dichotomy is imprecise. In both NFL and MLB, the pauses (particularly organic, non-TV-driven ones) can let suspense marinate. Just like rests can be as important as musical notes in a song.

Also in the nfl a lot of actual important game action happens in between plays

The problem with the EPL is that you know before the season starts that only 30% of the league has a real chance. Heck, those teams will be the same ones that matter the next season, too. Or the one after that.

Do you think this is different from the NFL or NBA?
