Before the first public hearings, @baseballot and I took a closer look at the polls on impeachment. What happens if you break down support even further than we do in our impeachment tracker?https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/what-the-polls-say-about-impeachment-before-the-first-public-hearing/ …

Looking at Americans overall, support seems to have leveled off across question types. And while there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between questions asking about impeachment only and impeachment and removal, support for the inquiry itself has consistently been higher.pic.twitter.com/zud1Lu6Olk

Among Democrats, on the other hand, impeachment and removal seems slightly more popular than impeachment alone. Could this be because they're worried Trump won't actually be removed if he's impeached? (Also, note the different axes on all the charts!)pic.twitter.com/ByYdmXazoU

Among Republicans, all support is much lower, of course, but support for impeachment seems to have tracked support for the inquiry more closely. Independents, on the other hand, look very similar to the picture overall.pic.twitter.com/rZKyiQhOne
