Twenty-one years ago today the Bush administration opened the military prison at Guantanamo Bay. Thirty-five men remain there. We caught up with two former prisoners whose Supreme Court cases reshaped the legal landscape of the war on terrorism.

Would any of us want to live in a world without mothers? The eugenicists behind test-tube babies and surrogate motherhood now have their sights on genetic engineering and artificial wombs which would cut women out of the reproductive process.

Some of the sharpest minds I met are niqabis, whose intellect sophistication clashes with the stereotype that wants Muslim/niqabi women as simple, illiterate and incapable of their own thoughts. Once again, it is their struggle that remain unheard.

Instead of finally taking their own place in society, they are now relegated to home, jobless, forced to beg for help from those very people and organizations they have despised and fiercely rejected with so many sacrifices.

These are the Afghan women who already wore niqab, got an education in an Islamic environment, and refused to participate in public office and Ngos saga - despite the high pay - to maintain decency and avoid unhealthy and corrupt environments ..

Taliban's ban is not connected either to religion or culture, it is just power, repeated again in its senseless circle of stupidity and violence. Pity the watan, inundated again by tears of her brightest daughters and sons.

The understanding, and respect for the sacrifices made by choosing books over money, in a modern world that needs only notionism in the function of successful jobs. The high respect reserved to those women who made this difficult choice.

The reverence that Afghans have for education is something incredibly romantic and utterly rare elsewhere. The care of books, and all stationary necessary to take notes. The silence a big family can offer to those who are studying…

It makes you wonder how we can even share the same air of people that perpetuate these policies. A much needed, incredible work, with so much to unpack and reflect on inside each word and witness. 🙏 and all involved,🌹 to all the unknown true heroes we lost.

Earlier this year, revealed a pattern of suspicious killing by the SAS in Afghanistan. For the past few months, me and  have been digging into one operation, on which special forces killed two parents and shot their infant boys

Practical arguments, led by reason. Let's not forget that in #Afg - as in Somalia & other places before - famine and economic crisis is man-made, in the vest of the very same relief organizations that now act as if giving is an act of charity, not a duty due to the mess created.

For Afghanistan to emerge from crisis, its economy needs to grow—and this will require Western countries to engage with the Taliban rather than isolate it further, write @smithkabul and @delaneysimon. trib.al/dGV2LIT

One - despite all criticisms - remains an intellectual, the other nothing more than a banal character in a mediocre movie. The usual - and only - common ground is the role of US in their leadership as opportunistic, and not so refined, deus ex machina.

“gestation doesn’t just create a baby, it creates a mother”

With human life cheapened by mass-manufacture, motherless babies might be produced for lab experiments or the transplant industry, raised as military cannon-fodder, or simply grown as a slave class. Me at @unherd on what ectogenesis would really mean unherd.com/thepost/podbab
On 76th day of his long march north through the entire length of India, Rahul Gandhi walked into a textile-making town in the middle of this vast country, his face and hair covered in dust. I walked with him for about 13 miles that day. Here is the story.

For every rich boomer demanding euthanasia because “everyone wants choice” there will be many more poor, sad, or sick people cheaply culled by healthcare services struggling with the end of growth. Austerity euthanasia, on my Substack reactionaryfeminist.substack.com/p/austerity-eu

When you read the headline "American soldier abducts baby from Afghan family", you can't actually imagine how much worse the whole story gets. Joshua Mast is actively refusing to return an Afghan baby to her loving family who desperately want her back.

I thought Guantanamo was an exceptionalistic failure of human rights but if you dig enough you will understand US barbarism is extended to all, & it is clearly evident from their prison system. “In the Belly of the Beast” is an old but gold book about it
