PM speaking from The Lodge on 2GB: 'Like everyone who comes back [from overseas] you do your 2 weeks quarantine.' (PM and Cabinet members do their quarantine at home, regular Australians do theirs in mandatory hotel detention under guard at a cost of $3k).

Significant shift in gear from Singapore. '...instead of monitoring Covid-19 infection numbers every day, we will focus on the outcomes: how many fall very sick, how many in the intensive care unit...This is like how we now monitor influenza.'

Totally bizarre that neither PM sought to make more mileage out of this but the British company Octopus Group just announced a $50 billion partnership with Indigenous communities in northern Australia to create a massive renewable energy greenfield.

Labor's @KKeneally has lost every time she's faced the people. * As NSW Premier in 2011. * As the candidate for Bennelong in the 2017 beyelection * And finally last night when she took a safe Labor seat, short-changing a local candidate, and turned it independent. #ausvotes

The outrageous part of this is that when we ask the Govt / Border Force about VIPS (eg Abbott) getting exemptions etc they have said they can't discuss individual cases. Yet is able to use the office of PM and parlt to falsely claim Rudd had travelled.
Quote
Morrison claimed in the parliament today that I have obtained exemptions to travel in and out of Australia, taking quarantine places from other Australians. That is an utter falsehood. I haven't left Queensland since March. Morrison has misled the parliament & he should apologise

It's official: Britain has vaccinated more than the entire Australian population in just over 100 days after a record 660k jabs were administered in a single day.

Another big difference in the way UK & Aus media report on vaccines is not just very sober reporting on the minuscule AZ blood clot risks in UK but that anti-vaxxers don't get given platforms. Not so in Aust...where a hairdresser, with no expertise on vax, can be national news.

Australia's health minister Greg Hunt: "Vaccination alone is no guarantee that you can open up. If the whole country were vaccinated, you couldn't just open the borders." The benchmarks Australia is setting seem to be impossible to meet. #StrandedAussies

HERE SHE IS! SINGAPORE AIRLINES FLIGHT SQ221 BECOMES FIRST UNCAPPED FLIGHT TO LAND IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA AFTER THE INTERNATIONAL BORDER OPENS TO AUSTRALIANS WITH NO QUARANTINE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE BORDER WAS SHUT IN MARCH 2020 AND CAPS ON ARRIVALS INTRODUCED IN JULY 2020.

What sort of country are you when political leaders rejoice in their victory in locking out their citizens after already making it near financially impossible for them to get home in emergencies etc as it is? People will never forget when this is over.

This Delta strain is like nothing we have encountered before. If we reduce the numbers of international arrivals, we reduce the risk of Delta. I’ve been calling for a reduction in the number of international arrivals so I welcome National Cabinet’s decision today to halve it.

Oxford scientists deliberately made AstraZeneca at cost and fridge temps so it could be used to inoculate the less privileged.

Not all heroes wear capes. Queenslanders, it’s your chance to be a hero for your community - get vaccinated this Super Vaccination Weekend 💉💪 Over Saturday and Sunday, all Queensland Health hubs will be open and walk-ins are welcome!

Australia is so broken. What a country - red carpet for this woman, threat of jail for citizens, (who care desperately about keeping their loved ones safe and are only asking for a viable pathway home). #strandedAussues #FortressAustralia

It's kinda even weirder that Morrison, upon losing the election, told his church not to trust in govt when he was literally THE government the entire time.

💉 Absolutely stoked. 🇬🇧 Late afternoon walk passing a pharmacy-turned-vaccine clinic and asked them if they had any leftover doses going. 3 no shows. 💪🏽 30 mins later fully vaccinated two months earlier than expected. 🙏🏾 So grateful.

And it's Bill Shorten who finally lands the blow. 'All gab, no jab' and questions the deeply dangerous rhetoric of Scott Morrison et al undermining vaccine safety.

Australia will now lock in citizens who normally live abroad, requiring them to prove to the Govt that they have a compelling reason to return to their lives overseas. The move will deter citizens in distress from trying to get home. #fortressaustralia

So the Australian government knew that the demand for vaccines would be this tight but still waited until supplies had all but been taken up to secure contracts, putting Australia in its current dismal rollout position. (Source - Transcript federal health minister @GregHuntMP)

Morrison asked about secret side visits to family sites in Cornwall while telling Austns cases in UK are too high for them to travel abroad. 'I wouldn't describe it like that at all' (double standards)... 'pretty innocent'. Doesn't deny PMO organised it weeks in advance.

Sad moment last night chatting to sibling. When asked if we'd ever see each other again and I'd meet my nephew I had to say 'I honestly don't know anymore.' Can't believe this has gone on so long you just lose hope altogether. #FortressAustralia

Just spoke with Bob, the brave Hong Kong protestor who was filmed being dragged into the grounds of the Chinese consulate in Manchester yesterday and beaten. He says hair was ripped from his scalp and he was bleeding from his face and heavily bruised.

Australia has nearly eliminated coronavirus - a testament to the exceptional leadership from every state leader and the PM. Inherently, it is also a reflection of Australia's understanding of China. Why Australia's experience is not being held up as a model globally is beyond me.

International arrivals will still have to do quarantine in QLD even when fully vaxxed and tested negative. What. Is. The. Point.
Quote
Replying to @AnnastaciaMP
International arrivals must be fully vaccinated, return a negative test within 72 hours of departure, and must do 14 days of home or hotel quarantine. Fully vaccinated border zone residents with a border pass will be able to move freely across the border, no test required.

Australia: * didn't trust the WHO (ie China) * closed borders to China ASAP and has enforced quarantine for overseas arrivals - Growth in the country's infection rate has halved. Death toll is just 28 and known cases < 6k.

And we thought Malcolm's sulk and tanty in 2016 was bad. That was a dreadful sign of things to come for Morrison - completely tone deaf, shades of born to rule, zero humility, aggression against Shorten (When this was never about Labor) and the gall to invoke Invictus spirit.

I don't think I've ever seen as much chat about politics/Scott Morrison amongst my normal friends and family on social and (unsolicited) to me directly than this week. Not quite sure PMO realises how badly the PM has cut through to his Quiet Australians... #AustraliaBurns

Australia extends its international border ban to June 2021, meaning 15 months of bans on citizens leaving, caps on the number of citizens permitted to enter their own country as well as banning foreigners from entering.* *unless they are famous and rich.
