To virtue signal on behalf of younger me, I remember at a very early age being struck by how obviously unfair it was that some people should have to work so much harder just to enjoy elements of life that came relatively easy to me.

(Someone at church raised the condition of the working poor in South Asia, made me suddenly realise that even if I didn’t think of myself as super rich in my immediate environment being me in the West made me part of world’s aristocracy in terms of arbitrary undeserving wealth.)

Lots of discourse on global justice & (genuinely good) progress in poverty reduction serves to obfuscate this rather plain fact: this is unfair, a consequence of past and present plundering and we all know it. #MayDay seems good time to publicly remind myself of what I once knew.
