Most basic reason: I should like more bank holidays, and this is a culturally salient excuse for one. Slightly more principled reason: it is good to make clear (and inculcate in people) that there are things more valuable than increased productivity for capitalists.

It should be a bank holiday because it's (probably) Shakespeare's birthday. Or are you against bank holidays for people on basic
