Odd thing one notices as an immigrant: the demographic of people who make encouraging audible "mhm" noises during US #philosophy talks are overwhelmingly young white men and African American women. I don't have any particular theory as to why this odd cultural commonality exists.

My observations are definitely not reliable, but I’m also not going to talks at random and some of my interests mean I’m disproportionately selecting for events African American women in philosophy are likely to be at.
