I think I have failed to model the kind of intellectual engagement I should prefer to see, as I am still adjusting to becoming a professor and taking up the social responsibilities I think that entails. I think I was reasonably enough annoyed, but I think we might reasonably hope for more out of our intelligentsia (or aspirants therero!) than that kind of childish exchange of insults. I should do better.

What's the relationship between this link and the tweet? I also just don't think 'modelling the engagement we should want' is the right framework for acting - actions should respond to the world you're in, not the counterfactual you would like to see (don't be Kantian!)
