In Bad Old Days folk just did #philosophy of physics but called it philosophy of science. Then some brave soul decided to see how biology was doing. Through keen observation they discover it's literally not physics. So we learn our lesson and do philosophy of particular sciences

this isn't perfectly responsive, but woodward's recent dialogue (yes really woodward wrote a dialogue) against analytic metaphysics seems to get at what one learns from an engagement with science as a whole rather than an imaginary picture of Fundamental Physics
