That said, I had forgot since last reading how dickish the piece is w/r/t native Americans and Polynesians. Reminds me of Anna Julia Cooper and the younger Du Bois. 19th/early 20th century Af Am intellegentsia seem to have very often drunk the kool aid on this front.

Actually to be clear: Anna Julia Cooper sometimes expressed solidarity with native Americans, so credit where due. But read her discussing Irish, southern Europeans and, I seem to recall but am less confident, continental Africans - and that's what I am reminded of here.
