Americanism pervades online political discourse in UK. Makes no sense to refer to British left as liberals (of snowflakes to be triggered variety) and I know of instances of black British campaigners saying “we were brought here in chains”. Can’t we even have our own culture war?
I used to think it was a right wing thing, but now it seems a bit more pervasive. And yeah I know some sophistic defence could be given of both locutions there in the British context, but search your heart - you know it’s just thoughtless borrowing from the yanks as well as I do.
And American sports metaphors. British people takling about "stepping up to the plate" irks me.
