Bizarre thing about moving to America to be in academia is all the fancy right-on lefty academicals are super comfortable making sarcastic comments about `sportsball' in ways which seem to me, humble Britisher that I am, like just naked snobbery. What's up with this?
Just not knowing football is 1 thing, but attitude of active contempt for liking football would (i think) be seen as bad: also for what it’s worth my experience of football analogies in European philosophy talks is they go well, mostly being friendly international rivalry banter.
