Sometimes I think about the fact that people interpreted `Born in the USA' to be an expression of rah-rah-America jingoism and it bothers me.

I often wonder if they could have done so if the Nebraska version were the one Springsteen released
Yeah it has to be something about the tone of the song (it just can’t be the lyrics) - people reading it as enthusiasm rather than anger. The Nebraska version would block that.
