@lastpositivist Look at it another way. You survive all that, you must be lucky.
"Luck of the Irish" is an odd phrase. Looking at Ireland's history, I find it hard to believe you'd think "Wow these people sure are lucky!"

@cathyby Reminded of Orwell's response to doctor who said he was lucky to be alive: "I rather think it'd have been luckier not to get shot" - Show replies

@Amuly21 Never heard the phrase used that way - every time people say it it's when they just got lucky and explain it by luck of the IrishThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@Amuly21 Hmm, here is the Irish independent using the phrase to clearly mean "lucky": http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/books-arts/hanks-as-your-host-its-the-luck-of-the-irish-29329176.html …Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@Amuly21 It seems there are two uses of the phrase, but I think your way clearly makes more sense so henceforth I'm adopting it!Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
