Ten years ago today, The Lancet retracted Andrew Wakefield’s fraudulent 1998 article claiming the MMR vaccine caused autism. He performed procedures on children unethically, paid kids at a birthday party to give him blood samples, and doctored data. He still claims he was right.

Do you know many very young children who can: 'control their immediate impulses when appropriate'?! - I urge you, get the right people in when seeking guidance re the self-reg ELG. It is not that black & white. Ongoing, ever-evolving co-regulation is CRITICAL.

This piece has some nuance: stories can help convey info. But good stories in science are accurate (and often complicated) stories.

It feels to me like as you approach mastery of a language you eventually cross a threshold beyond which you steadily become LESS effective at communicating as your grasp on that language strengthens Knowing how to "simplify" requires an entirely different kind of intelligence

This is my favourite optical illusion of all time and I still don't fully understand how it works. Any takes? To experience it, open up the full image and stare blankly at the smudged colours for 30s. All the colour should slowly disappear leaving just the white background 🤯

Let’s be clear. This is not a research study but a review of ‘some’ of the research. It focuses on SSP as a named programme but ignores 100 years of prior phonics research. It also conflates comprehension with word reading. It requires a robust analysis. Which it will receive...

Students at elite high schools in the US do debate: one-on-one contests that reward rhetorical flair but allow, even call for logical sophistry. If you think about the political elite of the US as grown up prep school debate kids, you can see where our politics have gone awry.
