Some of the most vocal iPad lovers really do want to see the Mac die. This attitude naturally sparks a backlash from Mac lovers. Empirically, iPad has not and is not replacing the Mac. Look at AAPL quarterly results. Mac sales have greatly *increased* since iPad introduction.

Mac, iPad, and iPhone can all happily coexist and thrive together. There's no inherent reason why this can't happen. It's really the best of all possible worlds. "The future of computing" is a terrible notion. There ought to be many futures of computing.

We have 3 different form factors. That's great! Each has different advantages and disadvantages, and each is most appropriate for certain situations. They don't compete any more than a sweater competes with a tank top. You just wear one in the winter and the other in the summer.

I think you stated it better than the article did. My order of “importance” is Mac, iPad, Watch, Phone. But, if I can do it well on the iPad… I do. I prefer it more than any of the others.
