I can't deal with the fake humility, so I always go for ありがとうございます. Of course, if you feel like you're not there yet then まだまだです is okay.

That's so interesting! I feel like saying thanks might be a bit taboo from what I understand in Japanese culture. Rather be fake humble than say thanks and accept the compliment. I'm more in the まだまだcategory, but also cause I know my JP has a long way to go haha
