I'm often surprised when somebody says that they forgot a lot of a language in just a few months or in 2 or 3 years. If you learn the words or get experience with them in actual language usage, they will stay with you for a long time! I'm still fluent in Japanese 5 years later.

Sure! Eventually it starts to happen. I sometimes forget words in Spanish 😂. Especially the spelling. I'm worse at spelling Spanish now than when I was 12.
