Some research papers sample 100 adults and conclude that learning a language as well as a child is impossible because most of them didn't make it. They *CAN'T* and they *DON'T* are very different things. Let’s look at the outliers. Let’s study what they did instead.

Looking at only outliers w/in those samples can be problematic b/c they tend to be educated adults who learned languages in "traditional" ways. Adults who picked up languages like children—implicitly and listening lots before speaking much—might be outside those samples entirely.

Not necessarily. They could be individuals within the classroom that supplemented the classroom learning with their own methods--which aren't necessarily the same methods of children either. Rather than making assumptions about them, it makes sense to study them.

18 wn I began lrning Spa in immersive setting, much like child lrning L1. No formal Spa lessons during 1st yr transition fr N to Adv. Today I spk Spa most of waking hrs. 100% Sp w ss & home. Most ppl barely detect acc. Now spk Disting Lvl. Learning Fr & Gr same way. CAN be done.
