I don't compare myself to native speakers, I aspire to be like them, imitate them, pretend to be them, knowing that I am not and won't be.

I've often found it encouraging to rewatch a video or show that I liked in one of my target languages at least a few months after I first watched it, after getting many hours of other input in the language. This way I see how much better I can understand the language than before.

This is SO TRUE!

TO COMPARE ourself WITH OTHERS always end up by minimizing drastically any challenge we've just achieved. But comparing our OWN PROGRESS (like when learning a language) is GREAT and allows us to CELEBRATE OUR OWN ACHIEVEMENT instead of looking down on us

I would say I need a better goal than that. I think I have successfully embraced my inadequate French skills, yet I’m getting better every day by watching French Netflix movies and thinking all day in French.

I don’t compare myself to other people especially native speakers. I try to compete with Foley myself because that’s all I have to compete with in the first place. As long as I am achieving the goals that I set for myself language wise that’s all that matters.
