Parents don't require their 2-yo to respond in complete sentences. Why would you do it with an older learner? That seems the easiest way to give them fobia to speak.

It's not about forcing students to do what they don't want to do, but about giving them the encouragement and support they need to be successful.

"Requiring" sounds a lot more like "forcing" than like "encouragement and support".
It's all in how you roll it out in your classroom... But IMO it's all built on the love you display for all your learners and how you implement it in your setting.
